Z SUPPLY Foundation Student Spotlight: Betty Pham

The annual Z SUPPLY Foundation donation initiative is back for the third year in a row with a meaningful goal. This Black Friday season, we’ll be donating to the Z SUPPLY Foundation’s Education Fund to support scholarships and programs that empower aspiring artists, with a target to raise $300,000. Since 2021, we’ve raised $900,000, funded 58 scholarships, and provided essential resources for students pursuing their creative passions. Our goal is all about giving young creatives the opportunity to thrive, helping them turn their dreams into reality. Every purchase you make fuels these journeys, opening doors for the next generation to make their mark.

We had the joy of welcoming three of our scholarship recipients to Z SUPPLY HQ for a day. They joined us for a photoshoot, interviews, and career sessions with team members in the roles that they aspire to pursue. Connecting with designers, marketers, and other creatives, these students shared their dreams and gained firsthand insights into potential career paths.

Betty Pham

Meet Betty Pham, a senior at Otis College of Art and Design pursuing a BFA in Product Design, and learn more about how art has impacted her life.

Give us 6 descriptive words that describe how art/being creative makes you feel.

Human. Alive. Purposeful. Sentimental. Energized. Grateful.

How does art/creativity affect the world we live in?

Everything that exists, save for nature itself, is a result of human creativity. Artists and designers have the power to shape the world. We take from our own experiences and observations—all the things we see, touch, feel—and we make something from those that other people can also see, touch, feel, and be inspired by.

Does art impact the community?

I think, in the simplest terms, art brings people together. It’s like this magical space where people can connect with one another and be in communion. Then, of course, physical communities can also be built from that connection, like the environment that Z SUPPLY has created, for example.

Describe how art/creativity makes you feel.

Art and creativity make me feel like I have a purpose, like it was what I was always meant to do. I love design so much. I love coming up with ideas and finding solutions to problems. I’ve always been very precious and sentimental with objects, so the fact that I get to design things for other people that bring value to their lives is just everything.

Briefly talk us through your relationship with the Z SUPPLY Foundation.

I found out about Z SUPPLY when my school notified me that I had received a scholarship. I was very grateful upon receiving it. Right now, the financial aid that Z SUPPLY is granting me is really helping me cover tuition costs and make it through my senior year at Otis.

What are some of the positive impacts of the Z SUPPLY Foundation?

The Z SUPPLY Foundation is such a generous initiative. Not only does the foundation grant scholarships to art students like me, but it also gives back to the community through outreach events like OC Rescue Mission, the Holiday Food Box Drive, and Miracles for Kids. As someone who grew up in Little Saigon just right around here, it’s very inspiring to see a company give back to my community.

Did you know that the Z SUPPLY Foundation has raised over $900,000? How do you think this is helping our community of artists?

When I read the number $900,000, I thought, wow, that’s just incredible. That’s like a million. I think what Z SUPPLY is doing is so important, because sometimes, oftentimes, money can be a barrier to people’s access to art. I think receiving fiscal support can be the difference between someone either giving up on their talent or going out there and creating something that could change the world.

We appreciate our scholarship recipients for taking the time to speak with us and look forward to seeing where their careers take them. Create opportunities for future artists by shopping our new arrivals and helping us raise $300,000.
